Traveling makes you dream? Do you want to go and discover distant lands , to explore the world? The problem is that traveling is expensive , you’re not a millionaire, and you don’t see how to discover the planet without breaking the bank.

Then this article will please you, because I reveal 32 essential rules for traveling cheap . Some will allow you to save a little on big expenses (transport, accommodation, food), while others will allow you to spend nothing at all and why not travel for free ! But before revealing them to you, I must explain why I am writing this article and how much my trips cost me.

Yet I wanted to travel, I wanted to discover the world. But I couldn’t afford to spend astronomical sums . When I read on other blogs or on forums that some go around the world for 10,000 or 15,000 euros, it drives me crazy. I don’t even spend half that amount for a year’s travel, and even then.

To give you an idea, my one-month trip to Italy cost me around €400 . I didn’t spend more than 300/350 euros for so much time during my roadtrip through the Baltic countries (from Tallinn to Vilnius exploring the small towns on the way). In two months in Spain I spent less than 800€. And there, in Croatia, I manage without problem with 600 euros per month , and yet I don’t deprive myself of anything (in any case that’s my feeling, maybe if a millionaire started sharing my daily life he would have impression of living like a semi-bum).

So you’re wondering how I go about spending so little, and above all you want me to explain to you how, in turn, to travel for a long time and at really low cost ? Answer in a moment. Before, I have to explain to you why others always spend a fortune as soon as they go on a trip.

Why do others  take such expensive trips?!

The first thing to understand is that in the minds of most people, traveling is expensive. So they don’t make the effort to find ways to travel cheap : for them, it’s not possible. So they pay a high price, because they are asked to do so. The tourism industry is doing well thanks to them: agencies are gorging themselves on their backs, and hoteliers are unaware of the crisis. Everything rolls.

You who read me, you are already in a completely different approach from 99% of these people. Just reading this article will make you spend a lot less than most tourists. Because you are asking yourself the right question: how to travel as much as possible while spending as little as possible.

And I will help you by giving you below the 32 rules that I systematically use to travel cheap. The general idea, you will quickly understand, is that to travel cheap, you have to travel differently from most people.

People are sheep , I’m not telling you anything. And the big companies in the field of tourism have decided to take advantage of all this by exploiting the twine to its maximum.

Don’t follow what people are doing, and you’ll get different results from them . For trips, it’s the same: observe the majority, and take the opposite view, you will often have good surprises.

Come on, enough chatter, let’s get to the heart of the matter, because I know this is what you all are waiting for, you bunch of smart guys!

Before going into the advanced tips, let’s start with the main basic rules . The ones I called my golden rules for cheap travel.

Between ten days in Norway and 10 days in Serbia, in which country do you think you will spend the least?

In Norway, you will find accommodation at best for 50€ per night, while in Serbia you can find accommodation for 10/15€ per night. In terms of food, a restaurant in Norway will cost you 30€ minimum, while in Serbia, for 5€ you will eat like a prince.

I will not go further in the demonstration, you understood the trick. Choose a country where the cost of living allows you to be comfortable, to indulge yourself, and to really enjoy.

There’s nothing worse than going on a trip but always having to restrict yourself because you can’t afford it. To enjoy a trip, you have to be able to let go from time to time and not be constantly watching for your wallet. So if you have a small budget, go to cheap countries . This is the golden rule!

> Travel out of season!

This is the second golden rule. The prices of tourist places sometimes vary from simple to triple depending on the season . Recently, I spent a week in Sardinia. The village where I was was not the most touristy on the island ( I was in Santa Maria Navarrese ), but I can tell you that if I had gone there in the middle of July, I would probably have everything paid three times as much.
